I've tried many playdough recipes, with all kinds of ingredients. Even some with ingredients I then decided I'd really prefer my children not touch (Conditioner for example … The artificial scent lingered on our hand for a few days!).

This one feels a lot like the playdough you can buy that is so soft and squishy and yet not at all sticky. It's really amazing.
I got it from my daughter’s preschool teacher (thanks Shula), and I was truly amazed by how well it works.

Amazing DIY Play Dough:
1.5 cups flour
1.5 tbsp citric acid
⅛ cup of salt
2 tbsp + 2 tsp oil
1 cup boiling water
If you are mixing by hand you either need nerves of steel or very thick dishwashing gloves.
I chose to use a mixer.
Place all dry ingredients in mixer and mix. Add oil and mix. Add boiling water and mix. You might need to knead it a little more by hand.

Colors:
There are a number of natural food coloring on the market as well as does for cosmetics. Here is what I used:
Yellow: Substitute ½ a cup of flour with turmeric powder.
Red: Add ¼ tsp of red oxide. (Blue and green oxides are also available.)
Voilà, enjoy!!
