Start and End Your Day by Cleaning Your Face Properly

We all have ways to clean our faces depending on the method that we are comfortable with. But did you know that there is a proper way and definite steps on how to wash your face that every dermatologist will suggest?

In this blog, I am going to teach you o how to wash your face properly day and night.

According to Dr. Heather Rogers, the order of application of skincare products on your skin is incredibly important. According to him, “The skin’s job is to keep things out, but many of the skincare products we use have ingredients we want to get in. Only a very small amount of these key ingredients can penetrate the skin, even when perfectly formulated and perfectly applied. If you don’t apply products in the correct order, you will not see the best results from your skin care regimen.”

Morning Routine Regimen

The morning routine is essential to protect your skin from the sun, pollution, and other elements that may lead to skin diseases.

STEP 1: CLEANSER

It is essential to start your day by letting your face be soaked or washed with water. Use a facial wash or cleanser that is designed for your skin type. If you have no idea about the products that suit your skin, you may consult with your dermatologist for safety.

STEP 2: TONER

Although some people may skip this step, applying toners is important because it acts as a delivery system for antioxidants, vitamin B and C, and even tonic acids. Moreover, each type of toner is intended for different skin issues. Personally, I apply toners 3 times a week.

STEP 3: SERUMS

Applying the serum is a new trend in the market nowadays. Serums are super-concentrated, dense treatments that resolve specific skin concerns. That is why it is better to keep them close to your skin as much as possible. There are lots of variants of serums that are available in the market today. I, on the other hand, would prefer serums that will brighten dark spots, lessen acne scars, and will tighten pores.

STEP 4: MOISTURIZER

Everyone needs moisturizer even when you have oily skin. It is already a known fact that our body has its own lubricating system to maintain a coat that protects us from outside conditions and infections.

Most experts recommend that the best time to apply moisturizers is when your skin is still wet. So the sooner you go through with your serum and treatment (if you have any), the sooner you can lock in much hydration with your moisturizer.

STEP 5: SUNSCREEN

Applying sunscreens should be everyone's last step for a daytime skincare routine. Use sunscreens that have at least SPF30 and they should contain UVA and UVB for extra protection against the ultraviolet rays.

Night-time Routine Regimen

Your skin naturally repairs itself at night. Your routine should be all about the treatment and giving your skin what it needs and even feeding it.

STEP 1: DOUBLE CLEANSER

I personally recommend using a cleansing oil first to get rid of all the dirt, unwanted oils, and make-up on your skin. I personally use coconut oil to clean my face. After that, you may wash your face again with your regular cleanser.

STEP 2: TONERS, ESSENCES, AND BOOSTERS

You may apply toners at night as you would in the morning.

Use light-weight skincare boosters such as water-based formulas. Apply them after washing your face and after applying your toner.

STEP 3: TREATMENTS, SERUMS, AND PEELS

Skin does need repairing, restoring, and regenerating. There are a lot of skincare treatments in the market including anti-aging serums. However, according to Dr. Rogers, “Too many steps just increase the risk of irritation and decrease the likelihood of the desired result. Pick your evening treatment based on what your skin needs that night, not based on what you have in your medicine cabinet. Some nights, it may be just washed, moisturize and bed. There is always tomorrow to give your skin more love.”

STEP 4: MOISTURIZER OR NIGHT CREAM

Some people use the same moisturizer day and night. However, night creams or night moisturizers are generally thicker and heavier. It is designed to be absorbed for longer hours than your ordinary moisturizers.

Always keep in mind that products that are best for others may not be best for you. That is why it is better to consult your dermatologist first and seek advice on what products you should use to keep your face healthy and glowing.
