Mosquito bites are most common in countries or places with warm climates. Most mosquito bites are harmless, but some can cause complications. Mosquitoes bite because they are attracted to human blood. The bite may not appear until after a few hours and usually causes swelling, pain, or itchy ridges.


In this blog, we will show you some kitchen supplies that are effective to get rid of those mosquitoes, or in general, insect bites.

Mosquitoes are small but they can be deadly, and oftentimes, you may not notice them until it bites you. Mosquitoes can carry diseases including dengue and malaria. It is important to always clean the surroundings of your home especially in areas where mosquitoes are suspected of laying eggs. Mosquito bites often cause small bumps that cause itching and discomfort.


Creams and ointments are popular when treating mosquito bites. However, there are remedies that are 100% natural and oftentimes can be found in your kitchen and garden. These home remedies include applying ice, honey, or aloe vera to reduce irritation. Preventive measures include the use of mosquito repellents and exposed skin coverings.


1. Oatmeal

Oatmeal has been used as a sedative to relieve itching and irritation associated with various insect bites. Mix oatmeal with an equal amount of water, apply the oatmeal paste, hold for 10 minutes, then wipe the area clean.


2. Honey

Apply the honey on the bite the honey. Honey has antibacterial properties and can prevent bite infections. It is best to use local raw honey. A small amount of raw honey on an itchy bite can help reduce inflammation. In addition, itchy honey-covered skin can cause sticky confusion, reducing the temptation to itching.


3. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a common household plant and has many uses as well as decorating shelves. Gels have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and help heal small wounds and relieve infections. That's why it's also a good choice to cure insect bites. Apply the natural aloe vera gel to the affected part and let it dry. For best results, apply two to three times a day.


4. Essential Oils

Essential oils such as tea tree, rosemary, lavender, neem, and sugi help temporarily relieve mosquito bites. These are natural oils obtained by distillation and give the characteristic scent of plants. Dilute a small amount with water and gently rub the affected area.


5. Lime Juice

Lemon is known for its anti-inflammatory and anesthetic properties. They help reduce swelling and pain. Slice the lemon and rub it on the affected area. It also has the effect of making a paste of lime juice and crushed basil and applying it to soothe.


6. Baking Soda

Baking soda helps relieve itching, stinging, and redness associated with mosquito bites. Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 3 teaspoons of water and apply baking soda paste. Baking soda is an ingredient in most commercial creams. Still, using baking soda on a daily basis is not good for your skin.
